Directors must be individuals; appointments and reappointments require a Director Identification Number for any appointee. Section 253 mandates that only natural persons may be appointed as directors and prohibits bodies corporate, associations or firms from being appointed; it further requires that no company appoint or re-appoint an individual as director unless that person has been allotted a Director Identification Number under section 266B.
