<h1>Companies Must Provide Documents to Members for a Fee Under Section 39, Companies Act, 1956; Fines for Non-Compliance.</h1> Under Section 39 of the Companies Act, 1956, a company is obligated to provide a member, upon request and for a fee of one rupee, with copies of its memorandum, articles, and any agreements or resolutions not included in these documents within seven days. Failure to comply results in a fine of up to five hundred rupees for the company and its responsible officers. The provision regarding agreements with managing agents was omitted following legislative changes in 2000.
