<h1>Companies Must Change Similar Names Under Section 22 of Companies Act 1956 or Face Daily Fines Within 12 Months.</h1> Under Section 22 of the Companies Act, 1956, if a company is registered with a name that is identical or too similar to an existing company or a registered trademark, the Central Government may require the company to change its name. This change can be initiated by the company through an ordinary resolution with government approval or mandated by the government within twelve months of registration. Failure to comply with such a directive results in daily fines. Applications to change names due to trademark conflicts must be made within five years of the company's registration notice.
