Companies with over fifty debenture holders must also maintain an index for easy reference. Non-compliance results in fines for the company and responsible officers. These requirements do not apply to bearer debentures. Amendments have updated certain provisions, including the removal of numbering requirements for debentures held with a depository and an increase in the penalty amount.
