          <h1>Search of place entered by person sought to be arrested permits police to demand entry and, if refused, forcibly enter.</h1> Section 44 authorises a person executing a warrant or a police officer authorised to arrest to demand free ingress and reasonable facilities for a search where the person sought is believed to be within a place; if admittance cannot otherwise be obtained after notification and demand, the officer may enter and search and break open doors or windows to effect entry, including where a warrant cannot be obtained without risking escape, and may break open to liberate detained persons. A protective provision requires notice and opportunity to withdraw before entering an apartment in the actual occupancy of a female who customarily does not appear in public.
