If the sentence is for a term of imprisonment and is more severe than the original sentence, it also takes effect immediately. If it is not more severe, the new sentence begins after the convict serves the remaining period of the original sentence. Rigorous imprisonment is considered more severe than simple imprisonment for these purposes.
