Cross-border evidence gathering permits courts to request oral examination and document production abroad as admissible investigation evidence. A Criminal Court may, on application by the investigating officer or a superior, issue a letter of request to a foreign court or competent authority to examine orally any person acquainted with case facts, record statements, require production of documents or things, and forward such evidence or authenticated copies to the issuing Court. Transmission of the letter shall follow the manner specified by the Central Government. Every statement recorded or document or thing received under this provision is deemed to be the evidence collected during the course of investigation under the Sanhita.
