Section 84: Courts Can Issue Proclamations for Absconders to Appear or Be Declared Proclaimed Offenders
Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, allows a court to issue a proclamation for a person who has absconded or concealed themselves to avoid a warrant. The court can publish a written proclamation requiring the person to appear at a specified place and time, at least thirty days from the proclamation's publication. The proclamation is to be publicly read and affixed in conspicuous places, and may also be published in a local newspaper. If the person fails to appear, especially if accused of a serious offense, the court may declare them a proclaimed offender.
