Special Judicial Magistrates: Magistrate powers may be conferred on government office-holders subject to qualifications and limited-term appointments. The High Court may, on request by the Central or State Government, confer on persons who hold or have held government posts all or any of the powers of a Judicial Magistrate of the first or second class for particular cases or classes of cases within a local area, subject to qualification or experience requirements prescribed by the High Court; such appointees are designated Special Judicial Magistrates and are appointed for terms not exceeding one year at a time.
