Executive magistracy: State may appoint and designate district and sub divisional magistrates with delegated and temporary powers.
Section 14 empowers the State Government to appoint multiple Executive Magistrates in each district and to designate one as District Magistrate, to confer Additional District Magistrate status with directed powers, and to have temporary successors exercise District Magistrate duties during vacancies. The State may place or relieve Executive Magistrates as Sub divisional Magistrates and may delegate that placement power to the District Magistrate; it may also, under other laws, confer Executive Magistrate powers on a Commissioner of Police.
