Section 212: Chief Judicial Magistrate Assigns Cases to Subordinate Magistrates for Inquiry or Trial
Section 212 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, outlines the process for assigning cases to Magistrates. It allows a Chief Judicial Magistrate, after taking cognizance of an offense, to assign the case for inquiry or trial to a competent subordinate Magistrate. Additionally, a first-class Magistrate, authorized by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, may also assign cases to other competent Magistrates as specified by the Chief Judicial Magistrate through general or special orders, enabling them to conduct the inquiry or trial.
