        Reservation of seats ensures proportionate SC/ST representation and mandated women representation in municipal bodies. Seats in every Municipality are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in proportion to their population in the municipal area and may be allotted by rotation among constituencies; a portion of those reserved seats is specifically reserved for women of those communities. Additionally, a minimum share of directly elected municipal seats is reserved for women, inclusive of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe women, and Chairperson offices may be reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and women as provided by State law.
