of <h1>Constitutional Mandate: Ensuring Proportional Representation and Gender Equality in Municipal Governance Through Strategic Seat Reservations</h1> Article 243T mandates seat reservations in municipalities for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes proportional to their population. At least one-third of reserved seats must be allocated to women from these communities. Additionally, one-third of total direct election seats must be reserved for women. Chairperson offices are also reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women as determined by state legislatures. These reservations are temporary and will expire as specified in Article 334.
