          <h1>Reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes and Tribes ensures proportional representation in State Assemblies with special northeastern transitional rules.</h1> Seats in every State Legislative Assembly shall be reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, with reserved numbers bearing, as nearly as may be, the same proportion to total seats as their population bears to the State population; autonomous districts of Assam receive separate reserved seats confined to the district and limited to members of the Scheduled Tribes of that district; transitional provisions fix interim reserved numbers for specified northeastern States until re adjustment on the basis of the first post specified year census.
