Vice-President Fills Presidential Role During Vacancy or Incapacity Under Constitutional Provisions for Continuous Governance
Article 65 of the Indian Constitution outlines the Vice-President's role during Presidential vacancies or absence. If the President dies, resigns, or is removed, the Vice-President acts as President until a new President is elected. When the President cannot discharge duties due to illness or other reasons, the Vice-President assumes Presidential functions. During this period, the Vice-President receives Presidential powers, immunities, emoluments, and privileges as determined by Parliament.
