          <h1>Appointments and service conditions for Supreme Court staff governed by Chief Justice rulemaking and funded from the Consolidated Fund.</h1> Authority for appointment of Supreme Court officers and servants rests with the Chief Justice or authorised Court officers, with presidential rules providing for UPSC consultation for external appointees. Conditions of service are prescribed by rules of the Chief Justice subject to law, with presidential approval required for rules on salaries, allowances, leave or pensions. Administrative expenses, including staff remuneration and pensions, are charged on the Consolidated Fund of India and fees taken by the Court form part of that Fund.
