Oath or affirmation by the President: made before assuming office before senior judge, pledging to defend the Constitution. Every President and every person acting as or discharging the functions of the President must, before entering office, make and subscribe an oath or affirmation in the presence of the Chief Justice of India or, if unavailable, the senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court available, pledging to faithfully execute the office, to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law, and to devote themselves to the service and well-being of the people of India.
