A Speaker's Journey: Vacating Office, Resignation, and Removal Under Article 179 of the Constitution
Article 179 outlines conditions for vacation, resignation, and removal of Assembly Speakers and Deputy Speakers. A Speaker/Deputy Speaker vacates office upon ceasing to be an Assembly member. They may resign by written notice to the Deputy Speaker or Speaker, respectively. Removal requires a resolution passed by majority of all Assembly members, with at least fourteen days' notice. When the Assembly dissolves, the Speaker retains office until immediately before the first post-dissolution Assembly meeting.
