Existing laws continue post-Constitution but can be adapted within three years under President's order, per Article 394
All laws in force in India immediately before the Constitution's commencement continue until altered or repealed by a competent authority. The President may order adaptations or modifications to align existing laws with the Constitution within three years of its commencement, and such changes cannot be challenged in court. However, this power does not extend beyond three years, nor does it prevent legislatures from repealing or amending adapted laws. Laws include those previously enacted and those with extra-territorial effect, which continue subject to necessary adaptations. Temporary laws expire as originally fixed, and ordinances in force before the Constitution cease six weeks after the first meeting of the relevant Legislative Assembly unless withdrawn earlier.
