Saving of existing laws preserves pre-existing trade restrictions, subject to presidential orders and continued legislative power. Article 305 saves existing laws by providing that Articles 301 and 303 do not affect any existing law except as the President may, by order, direct. It also ensures that Article 301 does not affect the operation of laws made before the Fourth Amendment insofar as they relate to matters in sub clause (ii) of clause (6) of Article 19, and does not prevent Parliament or State Legislatures from making laws on those matters.
