Disposal of hazardous waste requires categorisation as banned or regulated, with re-export/destruction or authorised recycling for illegal imports. Hazardous waste must be categorised as banned or regulated: banned waste is to be re-exported where permissible or destroyed at the importer's risk and cost; regulated waste may be recycled or reprocessed by authorised persons within permitted parameters. Disposal must follow the Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules, 2016. For illegal imports the importer must re-export within a specified period; if Customs/port dispose, they require State Pollution Control Board permission; untraceable-importer waste may be sold to an authorised user or sent to an authorised treatment, storage and disposal facility.
