Faceless Assessment Groups Reorganized in 2023 for Efficient Import Bill Processing and Enhanced Specialization Nationwide
A Faceless Assessment Group (FAG) comprises customs officials responsible for assessing import bills assigned through the Customs Automated System. These officers can assess imports at any port nationwide. To enhance specialization, separate FAGs for specific commodities were established in 2021. The Board reorganized these groups in 2023 to optimize workload and improve assessment efficiency, ensuring balanced workload distribution. The reconfiguration aligns with changes to National Assessment Centres (NACs), promoting specialization based on the assessable value of imported goods. Currently, there are 189 FAGs across 35 sites, with periodic reviews for performance improvement.
