Code on Social Security extends social security coverage and permits chapter-specific application or removal by agreement. The Code on Social Security, 2020 extends to the whole of India and comes into force on dates notified by the Central Government; applicability of specific Chapters is set by the First Schedule and may be applied to establishments by notification. Administrative authorities may, on agreement between the employer and majority of employees, notify the application or removal of Chapter III or Chapter IV to an establishment, and an establishment to which a Chapter applies initially remains subject to it even if employee numbers later fall below the prescribed threshold.
