<h1>Appearance of parties under Code on Social Security permits authorised representatives to act before competent authorities, subject to written authorisation.</h1> Section 96 provides that any appearance, application or act required before a competent authority (other than a partys appearance for examination as a witness) may be performed by a legal practitioner, an official of an insurance company, a registered trade union, an Inspector-cum-Facilitator appointed under the Code, or any other officer specified by the State Government, if authorised in writing by the person concerned; alternatively, with the permission of the competent authority, any other authorised person may act. Operative effect: authorised representatives may undertake procedural acts on behalf of persons, subject to written authorisation or authority permission.
