Customs area control and approved landing places define authorised handling points for goods at ports and airports. The Principal Commissioner of Customs or Commissioner of Customs may approve proper places within a customs port, customs airport or coastal port for unloading and loading goods, including any class of goods, and may specify the limits of any customs area. The provision is an administrative mechanism for regulating authorised handling points and defining the territorial scope of customs control and regulation at ports, airports and coastal ports.
