of <h1>Customs Officers Empowered to Search and Seize Under Section 106 of the Customs Act, 1962 for Anti-Smuggling Operations.</h1> Section 106 of the Customs Act, 1962, grants customs officers the authority to stop and search any aircraft, vehicle, animal, or vessel suspected of involvement in smuggling activities within India or its customs waters. Officers can search and examine any part of these conveyances and their goods, and may break locks if keys are withheld. If necessary, government vessels or aircraft can compel a vessel to stop or an aircraft to land using recognized signals. Non-compliance may lead to pursuit and, if needed, firing upon the conveyance to enforce compliance.
