New Rules for Steel and Wireless Imports: Mandatory Registration & Streamlined Licensing Process for Compliance
The Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order 2012 mandates strict compliance for importing steel products, prohibiting substandard imports. The DGFT Notification No.17/2015-2020 requires certain steel imports to undergo compulsory registration through the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS), which involves an online advance registration process. SIMS is not applicable to air-freighted goods or returnable steel racks. Additionally, the Department of Telecommunications has streamlined license processing for importing wireless equipment, allowing automatic license generation via the Saralsanchar portal. The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing has issued guidelines for import licensing of wireless equipment.
