Phytosanitary controls require import permits and certificates; noncompliant plant consignments face detention, fumigation or destruction.
Importation of plants and plant materials into India requires an Import Permit and an Official Phytosanitary Certificate subject to limited exemptions. Importers must register consignments with the Plant Quarantine Station, submit supporting documents, pay inspection fees, and arrange sampling and supervised fumigation if live pests are found. Consignments free of pests receive Customs release; infested consignments may be fumigated, detained, deported or destroyed at importer's cost after notice. Articles with wood packaging must comply with ISPM 15 treatment and marking or be treated at entry under Plant Quarantine supervision.
