of <h1>Public Servant definition expanded to include military officers, judges, panchayat members, arbitrators under Section 2(28)</h1> The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 defines 'Public Servant' under section 2(28) to include commissioned military officers, judges, court officers, panchayat members, arbitrators, confinement officers, government officers preventing offenses or protecting public welfare, revenue officers, local authority officers, electoral officers, and persons in government service or pay. The definition encompasses those appointed by government or not, including persons actually performing public servant duties regardless of legal defects in their appointment. Elections refer to selection of legislative, municipal or other public authority members.
