Right to receive bill of lading: possession of mate's receipt entitles exchange and guards against wrongful delivery. The owner of goods at shipment is entitled to a bill of lading made to his instructions and may demand redelivery if refused or if terms differ; refusal to redeliver is conversion. Possession of the mate's receipt prima facie entitles the holder to a bill of lading, and absent notice to the contrary the master or carrier's agent may sign and deliver a bill of lading in exchange for that receipt.
