Continuing offences run limitation period from last criminal act, not first act or initial conduct
A continuing offence is a crime committed over a span of time, consisting of separate acts or conduct arising from a single purpose or impulse. Unlike instantaneous crimes where the statute of limitations begins at consummation, for continuing offences the limitation period commences from the last act or cessation of criminal conduct. The offence endures beyond the initial act and may involve successive similar acts or a continuous series of conduct. Only the last act within the limitation period needs to be alleged in legal proceedings, as it controls the commencement of the statutory limitation period.
