<h1>Retrenchment of employees with one year service requires notice, severance pay, and statutory government notification</h1> Conditions precedent to retrenchment: employers may not retrench a worker with at least one year's continuous service unless (a) the worker has received one month's written notice specifying reasons for retrenchment and the notice period has expired or wages in lieu of notice have been paid, thereby requiring prior notice or payment; (b) the worker has been paid, at the time of retrenchment, compensation equal to fifteen days' average pay (or such alternate average as notified by the appropriate Government) for every completed year of service or part exceeding six months, thereby mandating severance compensation; and (c) notice in the prescribed manner is served on the appropriate Government or specified authority, thereby obliging statutory notification.
