Industrial disputes of national importance must be referred and adjudicated expeditiously with awards submitted within prescribed timeframes. The Central Government may refer industrial disputes involving national importance or likely to affect industrial establishments in more than one State to a National Industrial Tribunal, which must hold proceedings expeditiously and submit its award within the period specified in the referral or any further period extended by the Central Government.
