<h1>Section 251 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023: Concealing Offence with Gifts Leads to Imprisonment and Fines</h1> Section 251 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, addresses the act of offering gifts or restoring property to conceal an offence or shield an offender from legal punishment. If the concealed offence is punishable by death, the penalty includes up to seven years of imprisonment and a fine. For offences punishable by life imprisonment or up to ten years, the penalty includes up to three years of imprisonment and a fine. For lesser offences, the penalty is up to one-fourth of the maximum imprisonment term for the offence, a fine, or both. This section does not apply to offences that can be lawfully compounded.
