<h1>Section 239: Legal Consequences for Failing to Report an Offence When Obligated, Includes Imprisonment or Fine.</h1> Section 239 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, addresses the intentional omission to report an offence by individuals legally obligated to do so. It stipulates that any person who knowingly or with reason to believe that an offence has occurred, fails to provide the required information about it, shall face legal consequences. The punishment for such an omission can include imprisonment for up to six months, a fine up to five thousand rupees, or both.
