<h1>Section 208: Penalties for Ignoring Public Servant Orders Include Jail or Fines; Stricter for Court Orders.</h1> Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, addresses the offense of nonattendance in obedience to an order from a public servant. It stipulates that any person legally required to attend a specific place and time, either personally or via an agent, and who intentionally fails to do so, or leaves prematurely, is subject to punishment. The penalty can be up to one month of simple imprisonment or a fine of up to five thousand rupees, or both. If the order is to attend court, the punishment can extend to six months of imprisonment or a fine of up to ten thousand rupees, or both.
