Consumer Protection Authority Can Initiate Inquiries on Rights Violations, Unfair Trade, Misleading Ads - Section 19
The Central Consumer Protection Authority, under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, has the power to initiate a preliminary inquiry upon receiving information or complaints regarding potential consumer rights violations, unfair trade practices, or misleading advertisements. If a prima facie case is established, the Authority can direct the Director-General or District Collector to investigate. If the matter falls under the jurisdiction of another regulatory body, the Authority may refer the case to the appropriate regulator. During investigations, the Authority, Director-General, or District Collector can require individuals to produce relevant documents or records.
