Mediation framework promotes institutional and online mediation, enforces mediated settlements and provides for mediator registration. The Act establishes a statutory framework to promote and facilitate mediation, emphasising institutional and online mediation, encouraging community mediation, enabling enforcement of mediated settlement agreements, and providing for a body to register mediators; it applies throughout India and commences on dates appointed by the Central Government by notification.
