<h1>Clause 56 of Code on Wages, 2019: Offences Compounded for 50% Fine, Excludes Repeat Offences and Imprisonment Cases</h1> Clause 56 of the Code on Wages, 2019, allows for the composition of certain offences, excluding those punishable solely by imprisonment or with both imprisonment and fine. Offences can be compounded by a Gazetted Officer, as specified by the government, for 50% of the maximum fine. This provision does not apply to repeat offences within five years. The compounding process must follow prescribed procedures, and if done before prosecution, it prevents prosecution. If after, it must be reported to the court, leading to the discharge of the accused. Non-compliance with compounding orders incurs an additional penalty.
