<h1>Deductions for Absence Under Code on Wages 2019: Rules for Proportionate Pay Cuts and Collective Absenteeism.</h1> Deductions for absence from duty under the Code on Wages, 2019, are permissible when an employee is absent from their designated workplace during required working hours. The deduction amount must proportionally relate to the period of absence within the wage period. If ten or more employees collectively absent themselves without notice or reasonable cause, deductions may include up to eight days' wages as compensation for lack of notice. An employee is considered absent if they refuse to work despite being present at the workplace, such as during a stay-in strike without reasonable cause.
