of <h1>Link Aadhaar to PAN by March 31, 2022, to avoid penalties from July 1, 2023, under Section 139AA.</h1> The Finance Act, 2017 introduced Section 139AA in the Income-tax Act, 1961, mandating individuals eligible for Aadhaar to link it with their PAN when applying for a PAN or filing income tax returns from July 1, 2017. Those without an Aadhaar can use the Enrolment ID. Individuals with PAN as of July 1, 2017, must link their Aadhaar by March 31, 2022, or risk their PAN becoming inoperative. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) announced that penalties for not linking PAN with Aadhaar would be enforced starting July 1, 2023, if the PAN becomes inoperative.
