of <h1>Individuals Can Use Aadhaar Instead of PAN for Tax Returns if Linked, Effective September 1, 2019</h1> It is mandatory to quote a Permanent Account Number (PAN) on the return of income and in all tax-related transactions and communications with the Income Tax Department. However, effective from September 1, 2019, individuals who have linked their Aadhaar number with their PAN can use their Aadhaar number instead of PAN for filing income tax returns and other transactions where quoting PAN is required under the Income-tax Act.
