Section 50: Performance of Promises Valid When Done as Prescribed by Promisee Under Indian Contract Act, 1872.
The Indian Contract Act, 1872, Section 50, allows the performance of a promise in the manner or at the time prescribed or sanctioned by the promisee. For example, if a debtor transfers money to a creditor's bank account as directed, it constitutes valid payment even if the bank fails before the creditor is notified. Settling mutual debts by offsetting amounts or accepting goods as partial payment also satisfies the obligation. Additionally, sending a note by post as instructed discharges the debt once posted.
