Deployment of Union armed forces for grave law-and-order situations operates under central directions, limiting state control. The Government of India may deploy any Union armed force or other force under Union control to deal with grave law-and-order situations in any State; such forces must act according to directions of the Government of India and, unless those directions provide otherwise, are not subject to State superintendence or control; Parliament may by law specify the powers, functions, privileges and liabilities of members or units deployed during such periods.
