Article 257-A: Central Government Can Deploy Armed Forces in States for Law and Order Situations.
Article 257-A, introduced by the Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976, allows the Government of India to deploy armed forces or other Union-controlled forces to address significant law and order situations within any State. These forces, once deployed, must follow directives from the central government and are not subject to the State Government's authority unless specified otherwise. Parliament can legislate on the powers, functions, privileges, and liabilities of these forces during their deployment. This provision took effect on January 3, 1977.
