Insertion of Part IV-A establishes Fundamental Duties imposing obligations on every citizen to abide by the Constitution, respect its ideals and institutions, uphold sovereignty, unity and integrity, defend the country when called upon, promote harmony and renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women, preserve cultural heritage, protect and improve the natural environment, develop scientific temper and humanism, safeguard public property and strive for excellence.
