Commencement by notification: provisions of an amendment Act may be brought into force on differing notified dates. The Constitution (Forty-second Amendment) Act, 1976 is titled accordingly and its provisions are to be brought into force by the Central Government by notification in the Official Gazette; the Government may appoint different dates for different provisions, allowing staged commencement. A note records that the Act came into force w.e.f. 3rd day of January 1977 vide G.S.R. 2(E), dated 3-1-1977.
