of <h1>1976 Amendment: Article 74 Mandates President to Act on Advice of Prime Minister-Led Council of Ministers.</h1> Article 74 of the Constitution was amended by the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976, replacing clause (1) with a new provision. This new clause mandates the existence of a Council of Ministers led by the Prime Minister to aid and advise the President. The President is required to act in accordance with this advice while performing his functions. This amendment came into effect on January 3, 1977.
