Penalties for non-compliance may attract imprisonment or fine and permit summary trial powers by consumer adjudicatory bodies. Non-compliance with an order of a consumer adjudicatory forum by a trader, respondent or complainant is punishable by imprisonment, fine, or both, with prescribed minimum and maximum terms; the consumer fora are vested with the powers of a Judicial Magistrate of the first class to try such offences and may conduct summary trials of offences under the Act.
