of <h1>Consumer Protection Act 1986: District Forum Handles Complaints Up to 20 Lakh Rupees in Local Jurisdiction</h1> The District Forum under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 has the jurisdiction to handle complaints where the value of goods or services and any compensation claimed does not exceed twenty lakh rupees. Complaints can be filed within the local jurisdiction where the opposing party resides, conducts business, has a branch, or works for gain. If there are multiple opposing parties, the complaint can be filed where any of them resides or conducts business, with either the Forum's permission or the acquiescence of non-resident parties. Jurisdiction also applies where the cause of action arises, wholly or in part.
