Power of adjudication: designated central excise officers may adjudge penalties under the Chapter upon Gazette notification. Power to adjudge penalties under the Chapter and rules is vested in a Central Excise Officer when the Central Board specifies that officer by notification in the Official Gazette, permitting the Board to designate who shall exercise the power of adjudication for penalties arising under the Chapter.
