Section 135: Law of Payment Location Governs Dishonour and Notice Sufficiency for Negotiable Instruments.
Section 135 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, states that when a promissory note, bill of exchange, or cheque is payable in a location different from where it was created or endorsed, the law of the place where it is payable determines what constitutes dishonour and the sufficiency of notice for dishonour. For example, if a bill drawn and endorsed in India is payable in France and dishonoured there, the notice of dishonour given according to French law is deemed sufficient, even if it does not comply with Indian rules for non-foreign bills.
